February is Healthy Lifestyle Month, but what does this mean?
Self-care in the modern world is often overlooked. Our busy lifestyles and instant access to ‘boredom-busting’ activities have left many of us without healthy ways in which to care for ourselves. However, self-care is not about busting boredom but more about embracing the challenges, celebrating the positive, and creating resilience.
Have you found yourself waking up and immediately wishing for another hour of rest? Something like this is often a sign that you are not incorporating self-care into your routine.
Self-care is not only physical! Our mental health is as important. You’ve heard the saying ‘a healthy body houses a healthy mind’, but this can also be switched around to say that a healthy mind fosters the mentality of creating a healthy body. Time and time again, research shows that exercise in some form is one of the most effective ways in which to practice self-care. However, exercise is not the only way to engage in self-care. Nutrition, sleep habits, personal hygiene, and social interactions are just a few things that can be incorporated into a self-care plan.
One of the most relevant obstacles to self-care is our reliance on the digital world. For more of this, make sure you follow our February blog series, which focuses on the use of digital platforms, and you can disconnect for short periods of time.

Here are some tips to help you develop a self-care routine:
Make your bed in the morning: something this simple may seem irrelevant, but it has incredible power in a self-care routine. A tidy environment has an indirect impact on your mental state.
Take a digital ‘time-out’: too much time in front of digital screens can be harmful to your mental clarity but can also impact your physical health. Sitting too long in one place often leads to back pain and bad posture.
Cook something: Not everyone is fond of cooking, but the act of cooking a meal can itself be something that adds to your self-care. Focusing on a task like cooking allows you to let go of things that stressed you during the day, even if for only a short amount of time. What you cook can also help your mental and physical care; eating healthy foods that boost your energy and immunity are essential in any self-care plan.
Exercise something: just a walk around the garden can be useful and helpful. Many people think that resting means sitting in one place for hours on end. However, this has the opposite effect that imagined. Your body will feel sluggish and tired the longer you do this. Get up, walk around, and wake up to some sort of physical activity.
Elim Clinic Sobriety Service
We are thrilled to share a milestone moment from Elim Clinic!

On January 26, 2025, we hosted an inaugural sobriety service celebrating the collective achievements of our community. Seventeen candles were lit, representing a remarkable 119 years of combined sobriety. The event drew over 60 attendees, including individuals marking their own sobriety milestones, support of loved ones, staff and service users. Our guest speaker inspired us all with a heartfelt message, and we were deeply moved by the sense of community and accomplishment. This special event was a testament to the transformative work happening at Elim Clinic. We are honoured to be part of this journey and can't wait to see what the future holds!!
Elim Clinic Out-Patient services

We are pleased to announce that Elim Clinic has opened its Out-patient services Centre. This service is accessible to those service users that would prefer not to disrupt their entire life by entering a residential programme. The structured out-patient programme is designed to give these service users the tools to enter recovery whilst working or studying.
The programme is offered over 9 sessions (including an assessment session) which can be accessed via face-to-face therapy, or virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Benefits of outpatient treatment
Affordability – charged per session for the programme
Accessibility – can be face-to-face or virtual
Less invasive – the programme is included in the service users weekly routine
Less disruptive to work – no need to take time off

When I came to Elim I had no intensions of staying clean. But now leaving, I’m determined to fight and stay clean. This was my first rehab and I’m honestly so glad it’s my last. This place is so well looked after, clean and beautiful. The programme is amazing and I thought I wouldn’t learn anything but ended up learning something everyday. My therapist, Elize, was the best I’ve ever had. They are strict but in a good way and still gives you freedom to grow. The staff are so friendly, and everyone tried their best to keep us comfortable. I will never forget this place, thank you Elim. Best of all, I actually started cleaning my room.
