New Year’s Resolutions & Recovery

We ask ourselves yet again, what is the definition of a new year’s resolution?

"A New Year's resolution is a tradition in which a person resolves to continue good practices, change an undesired trait or behaviour, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their life at the start of a new year" - Wikipedia

The question however we ever keep them all???

Chances are that more than 90% of people will fail to achieve their resolutions. I am one of these statistics, year after year I commit to going to the gym, but I dislike the gym, so why bother?

But wait – there is hope!

By simply knowing what you want to achieve (realistic goals) you will know where to concentrate your efforts. So, I merely want to remain fit.

The solution, go for a walk three time a week. Now that sounds better.

If you have not yet committed to small scale steps toward a sober life, then take

  • Step 1: Come to Elim Clinic for treatment.

  • Step 2: Follow the plan provided to you during your treatment.

If you are in recovery:

Set goals that are small, significant, and realistic. Write your journal, exercise, eat healthy, join the aftercare support group, ask for help when you need it. Celebrate success and not failure. One day at a time. For myself – no gym but walking through every day.

Happy new Year from all of us at Elim Clinic: We are here to support and assist.
