When we think about addiction recovery, we focus a lot on mental and emotional well-being. But what about your body?

Addiction takes a toll on your physical health—whether it's weakened immunity, organ strain, or nutritional deficiencies. Healing isn’t just about staying sober; it’s about rebuilding your body, too.

Here’s the good news: your body is incredibly resilient. Every step you take toward healthier choices—whether it’s eating a balanced meal, getting quality sleep, or simply staying hydrated—helps your recovery process.

Let’s talk about small but powerful changes. Did you know that regular exercise can boost your mood, reduce cravings, and even repair brain function? Or that proper nutrition helps restore your body’s balance and energy? Taking care of your health isn’t just self-care—it’s self-empowerment.

One of the most important aspects of health, whether its physical or mental health, is the notion of mindfulness. Being mindful is all about being present in the moment. Understanding what you are experiencing, or feeling, or hearing and so on. In recovery, being present is essential. Taking note of how your body feels is vital. Your physical health impacts on your mental health, and your mental health can have an impact on your physical health. Making sure that your body feels good goes a long way to helping your mental health, and ultimately helping your recovery. In the end, knowing who you are is about knowing yourself physically and mentally.

So stop, and take the time to consider how your body is feeling… where the aches are, and what they might be telling you.

NEWS FLASH

#The Real Me Youth Programme

A youth group work programme offered to those youth that are experimenting with some or other substance. The programme seeks to bring focus back to the important things in life for youth. The intervention is available to schools (at a group rate) or individuals (at an individual rate). Marketed to schools as an alternative to suspension for those scholars in conflict with the school, a way of keeping them in school whilst educating them about their choices instead of the punitive measure of suspension.

Elim Clinic Out-Patient services

The structured out-patient programme is designed to give these service users the tools to enter recovery whilst working or studying.  The programme is offered over 9 sessions (including an assessment session) which can be accessed via face-to-face therapy, or virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Contact Lebo/Karabo at Elim Clinic to learn more about this programme.

Elim Clinic Extended-Stay Treatment

Elim Clinic is pleased to offer alternatives to those service users wanting longer-stay treatment as opposed to the usual 24 days.

The programme offered allows for 12 or 24 week stays at the clinic, thus affording the service user the opportunity to strengthen their recovery progress whilst at the Centre. Furthermore, the programme is a structured bio-psycho-social intervention programme, and includes all costs related to treatment.

Testimonial

I started drinking too much, alcohol addiction also leads to other habits that caused a lot of damage to my wife and children. It became so bad that my wife asked me to separate for any time with no time limit to it. In the time I had to move out I realized that I’ve never felt so totally alone, after 30 years of marriage two beautiful sons and my beautiful wife. I just lost because of my addiction. I came to my senses and booked myself in to Elim.

Today I am leaving Elim and can truly say my wife gave me the biggest gift ever so I can come to my senses. This is where I found the real God, the professionals here and staff was amazing. The Christian based clinic really changed my life forever, for the first ever I really serenaded all to God, got total peace for the first time the miracles happened hourly not daily. I am going back to my family today. There is still a lot of hurt and pain, but I believe they will see the new real man of God from now on and will get healed from there around that I have caused. This is really a family that talks to you from their own experience, no one can judge me at all.

I will miss this place and all the people here, thank you Codi, my role model for life, we prayed every morning together. Thank you, my friend Tshikosi you guys pulled me through in the evening with your prayers. - ‘J’

Elim Clinic Social Media Presence

In the world as it is today, addiction is a constant and ever-increasing social problem. It is also evident that social media is an area that can be used to open up discussions and disrupt existing notions or beliefs. It is with this in mind that Elim Clinic launched its new social media strategy on 1st February 2025.

Focused on sharing information about addiction and the treatment and recovery of addiction, the strategy aims to open up the discourse around addiction and provide evidence-based posts that will, in time, break down the stigma that surrounds addiction.

With a presence on all major social media platforms, the aim of the strategy is be a voice in the narrative of effective and sustained recovery from addiction.
